The BRIT Awards 2016 Nominations Have Been Announced

It seems Adele, James Bay and Years & Years are set to sweep up at this year’s BRIT Awards.

Adele’s nominations come as no surprise after the release of her latest album 25 saw her smash records from fastest-selling album to most copies sold in one week (bye bye bye *NSYNC). ‘Delly’s nominations include best British album, female, single and video – talk about an over achiever.

More surprising, perhaps, was the late Amy Winehouse’s posthumous nomination for best British female, following the massive success of Asif Kapadia’s documentary about her life. ‘Hold Back The River’ singer James Bay and pop trio Years & Years have also been nominated for four awards each, and DJ Calvin Harris and Jess Glynne each received three.

Eagles of Death Metal – the band whose fans were tragically involved in the November Paris attacks – were nominated for best international group alongside Major Lazer, Tame Impala, U2 and Alabama Shakes.

A tribute for David Bowie is currently in development following his death on Sunday, with BPI chief exec Geoff Taylor, saying:

“We’re still developing it, but we have some firm ideas and we’re involving the right people.I’m not going to go into the details – but we are very focused on honouring his legacy to British music.”

We wonder if it’ll include some footage of this Monday’s Bowie Brixton celebration party:
