Have Our Beauty Standards Gotten So Bad That They Affect Even Our Fruits And Vegetables?
A few students in Germany have started advocating for ugly fruits and vegetables. Everyone needs their own advocacy group, right? Even strawberries! OK, so really what they’re advocating for is less food waste. Tons of food are discarded every day around the world because they don’t match the aesthetics of what someone decided fruits and veggies were supposed to look like. Who decides these things anyway?
Long story short (too late, I know): In the U.S., we waste 40% of the food we grow. Some of that is due to it being “ugly.” If we were allowed to purchase those fruits and vegetables, we could eliminate a bucketload of unnecessary waste.
How could anyone still think they’re ugly after watching that?
