1. The Curious Case of the Happy Meal
An artist once photographed the same McDonald’s Happy Meal for 137 days straight.
On day 137, the burger and fries didn’t look any less happy than they had on day one — and George Washington wept.
2. Math Burger
As a way to compete with McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburger in the ’80s, fast food rival A&W debuted the Third Pounder: a better-tasting, cheaper and — here’s the important bit — meatier alternative.
It completely tanked. Not because it wasn’t a good deal (it was), but because most Americans associated the “3” in “1/3” as an implication that there was less meat than a quarter.
We Americans love our red meat. Historically, though, we can’t math good.
Now on to Fact #6.
In 2011, McDonald’s restaurants in Hong Kong began offering wedding packages for couples hoping to tie the knot underneath a pair of sad, golden arches.
The package includes a baked apple pie wedding cake, a dress made out of party balloons and an all-you-can-eat Mickey D’s buffet.
No alcohol is allowed, though. But at least eating McDonald’s fries makes people look more attractive over time.
4. Whopper Downey, Jr.
Burger King saved Robert Downey, Jr.’s life.
Thank you, Burger King, for giving us Iron Man. You can take back the childhood obesity, though.
5. 30 Minutes to Win It
For nearly a decade, Domino’s Pizza guaranteed customers would receive their deliveries in 30 minutes or less — otherwise, the meals were free.
After a woman was struck by a Domino’s delivery driver in 1989, though, they canceled their guarantee.
