This Is the Greatest Lytro Photo Ever Taken (Probably)
Lytro, the maker of the rectangular camera that takes photos you can re-focus later, recently held its first photo contest on Facebook. It has now declared a winner, making the photo officially the best Lytro photo ever taken (so far).
The contest began on Aug. 13 and ended on Sept. 30. There have been weekly winners, but the grand prize winner is Lytro user kentrombatore, who snapped the pic below of a dog, Regan, who is “on the hunt,” looking suspiciously at a hedgehog.
You can see quickly why Lytro chose it. The pic makes great use of the camera’s ability to re-focus, telling a slightly different story when you focus on the dog or the hedgehog. You can also re-focus on the extreme background or foreground, bringing out detail in objects as you like.
The winner will receive a new Lytro camera, though I suppose they’ll be re-gifting it since he obviously already has one. The are also four runners-up (pictured below), and you can see all the pics in the contest on the Facebook page.
What do you think of Lytro’s choice? And do you think light-field photography will catch on? Let us know in the comments.
