Obama and Romney Roast Each Other at Fundraiser Dinner
The dinner is an annual fundraiser for the Alfred E. Smith Foundation, and is a routine campaign stop for presidential candidates on election years. It’s a lighthearted event, where the candidates blow off some steam and joke around for an evening. Both candidates typically speak at the dinner for around 10 minutes.
The candidates poked fun at themselves, but didn’t entirely put the campaign aside, either — they directed plenty of quips at one another.
“I was actually hoping the president would bring Joe Biden along this evening, because he’ll laugh at anything,” joked Romney during his appearance, in reference to Biden’s near-constant laughing during the vice presidential debate.
“Please take your seats, otherwise Clint Eastwood will yell at them,” said Obama at the beginning of his speech, mocking the actor’s appearance at the Republican National Convention.
