The No. 2 Pencil Like You’ve Never Seen it Before
No man is an island and neither, apparently, is a pencil.
The intricate web of connections behind an object seemingly as simple as the ubiquitous No. 2 pencil is chronicled in “I, Pencil: The Movie.”
The video is adapted from a 1958 essay of the same title, which used the humble writing instrument to illuminate the glory of the free market system. While Adam Smith’s invisible hand still gets a lot of praise, the stunning motion graphics make the clip worth watching.
You may never see math homework or an SAT test the same way again.
