Fox suspended one of its freelance sports reporters for a comment posted from her Instagram account.

It all started when Erika Reidt, a freelancer for Fox Deportes, appeared to take a critical stab at Kobe Bryant for wearing one of the “I Can’t Breathe” shirts. The shirts are quickly spreading across the league as a way of protesting the Eric Garner decision.

The comment was made on this Instagram photo, which was posted by an ESPN writer Arash Markazi:

Reidt commented the following on the photo:

I’m gonna start wearing a shirt that says I can breathe because I obey the law.

Her comment was eventually deleted, but not before other users began to lay into her for the controversial opinion.

Reidt offered an explanation on Twitter:

But, few people, if any, bought the excuse, and with good reason. One user snapped a damning screenshot of the reporter thanking another user for defending the initial comment.

Fox says it is “investigating” the matter and Reidt is suspended until further notice.
