Ed Sheeran Spent 2 Years Homeless And Slept Outside Buckingham Palace
Musician Ed Sheeran is major in the UK, but it turns out success didn’t come easy for the red-haired singer. Even though he’s now worth an estimated 7 million pounds (about $10 million), he was homeless for a full two years while trying to get his career off the ground.
The Daily Mail reports that the 23-year-old spent all of 2009 and 2010 getting by however he could, mostly by sleeping on the London Underground and occasionally underneath a heating vent outside Buckingham Palace.
He wrote the song “Homeless” during this time, which appears on his album X.
Sheeran’s new book, “A Visual Journey,” details these darker years, which came about after he finished school and no longer received a grant to live on. For money, he’d play small gigs and sell CDs from his backpack.
Fortunately, by 2011, Sheeran was able to release a full-length debut album, and the rest, as they say, is history.
There’s nothing more inspiring than a true grit-to-glory story. That kind of motivation can remind us that the obstacles we face on a daily basis are, in reality, not that bad.
He may not be everyone’s favorite, but Sheeran is no doubt an inspiration to many.
