Don Lemon: ‘Obviously, There’s A Smell Of Marijuana’ In Ferguson (Video)

The careless phrasing of Don Lemon has the CNN anchor in trouble once again, this time while covering the scene in Ferguson after a jury chose not to indict officer Darren Wilson.

According to the Huffington Post, Lemon first told Anderson Cooper that he had heard gunshots and saw people vandalizing cars before adding another detail in a presumptuous way.

He said,

Obviously, there is a smell of marijuana in the air.

Lemon wouldn’t have been immediately lambasted had he simply reported to have smelled marijuana.

It’s the “obviously” that is the problem, and not just because a viewer can’t smell marijuana through a television set.

The word implies a generalization of the community, as if Lemon was saying that because he is in a black neighborhood, it only makes sense to smell marijuana.
