Eric Garner’s Daughter Says His Death Is ‘Not A Black And White Issue’ (Video)
The daughter of Eric Garner spoke to CNN’s Don Lemon Thursday night about protests, forgiveness and the role of race in her father’s death.
Viewers might have been surprised by what she had to say: Erica Garner, whose father was choked to death by police last July, doesn’t believe NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo’s aggression stemmed from racial differences.
She told Lemon that her father is dead thanks to Pantaleo’s savage will to conquer a suspect who was proving difficult to detain.
It was about the officer’s pride. It was about my father being 6’4″ and 350 pounds and he wants to be the top cop that brings a big man down.
She also said it will be very hard to forgive the officer because he isn’t being punished, and she expressed deep gratitude for the way the world is reacting to the decision not to indict Pantaleo.
