Before Drafted, Russell Wilson Guaranteed He’d Win The Super Bowl For The Eagles
Russell Wilson is confident. Russel Wilson is so confident, he promised he’d win a Super Bowl before he even played in his first professional game.
He was even confident enough to do that before knowing who his teammates were, or what team he’d be playing for.
That’s because he made that promise while trying to convince a franchise to draft him at the 2012 NFL Draft.
NFL Media Rep Daniel Jeremiah, who worked for the Philadelphia Eagles at the time of the 2012 Draft, told NFL.com’s Marc Sessler:
I interviewed him at the Senior Bowl. At the end of the interview, you always ask for players’ numbers so you can get in touch with them — he asked for my number.
And then I would get text messages from him periodically saying, ‘If the Eagles draft me, I will lead the Eagles to championships.’
Russell was adamant and unrelenting in his approach, too. He would not let up, all the way up until, practically, the last minute.
Well, we really liked him, and I thought there was a very real chance he was going to end up being a Philadelphia Eagle there. And then of course, Seattle ends up taking him.
A man true to his word, Russell did, of course, win the Super Bowl last February. Now, the rest of the league will just have to hope he doesn’t promise to win this year’s big game.
