If You Didn’t Post It, Did You Eat It? A PSA For Food ‘Photographers’

Dear person who has apparently never seen a bowl of pasta before:

1 — Congrats. 2 — Put your phone down and pick up your fork.

Do you realize that your food is getting colder every second you adjust your filters to take a picture? Did you know that your food could taste just as good, if not better, if you don’t take a picture of it?! I know — foreign concept.

I understand wanting to show the world that you actually do eat, but let’s be honest… we can do without your incessant uploads.

I understand a food post here and there, but if that’s all you’re posting, you may want to invest in some other hobbies. Maybe the gym perhaps?

Actually… maybe not because then you will start taking selfies on the treadmill.

If other people are not eating, what makes you think they even want to look at your food? We don’t need meals we don’t want thrown in our faces. Stop living life for other people and start living it for yourself.

And are you really spending all of your time eating? Don’t you have anything else that you could post? All you’re doing is making me hungry and forcing me to question my diet.

I don’t even believe that you eat half of the things you post. Ever heard of “eating” for the Insta? Well, that’s exactly what you are doing.

Is this a desperate cry for attention? Do you really need your meals validated by “likes”? Do you even know half the people “liking” your food photos? Do you even like what you’re eating? I bet you took a picture, took two bites and then went about your day.

How can you even fully enjoy your meal if you are only occupying yourself by taking photos of it and then watching people you may or may not even know like it. What are you trying to prove? That you can eat whatever you want while still remaining in great shape?

All this is doing is making people resent you and your food posts. Isn’t this the opposite of what you intended? Don’t you want people to “like” your food posts? Well, when you post a grilled cheese at 11 am, everyone knows that’s not what you’re eating for breakfast unless it’s on a weekend.

I’m not sure what you are trying to prove as everyone knows this isn’t really your meal in the first place.

Is it a grand scheme to impress and prove to people that you frequently “enjoy” really extravagant meals? Good for you? But let’s be serious, this is an illusion — just like contouring and Kim Kardashian’s ass.

So, please, a PSA to food pornographers everywhere: Stop eating for the Instagram and start eating to actually enjoy what you are spending your hard earned money on.

Maybe it’s just me but when my food comes out at a restaurant, the first thing I grab is my fork, not a camera. Every second you spend trying to decide between the Valencia and Hudson filter, the more and more you are taking away from the taste.
